Donald Trump confirmed on Saturday that the United States carried out a “successful attack” on three major nuclear sites in Iran, after days of speculation about possible intervention in the conflict in the Middle East.
According to the President of the United States in a message through his Truth Social network, the attacks occurred in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
How were the attacks of the United States on Iran?
“We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home. Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!” wrote Trump.
Around 10 pm Eastern Time, the President of the United States delivered a message to the nation where he classified the message as a “success”.
“Tonight, I can report to the world that the attacks were a spectacular military success. Iran’s main nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally destroyed,” Trump stated.
Likewise, he thanked the work of the Israeli military forces while praising the work carried out by the United States Army.
“I want to thank the Israeli forces for the wonderful job they have done, and most importantly, I want to congratulate the great American patriots who piloted those magnificent machines tonight and the entire United States Army for an operation like the world has not seen in many, many decades,” he said.
“There is no army in the world that could have done what we did tonight,” he added.
The attacks would have been carried out with the GBU-57 bombs, known as Massive Ordnance Penetrator, weighing 13 tons, the largest and most destructive conventional bombs in the world, which only the United States possesses.
These bombs, which are capable of penetrating Iran’s underground facilities, like Fardo, can only be carried by B-2 bombers, which are exclusively owned by the United States Air Force.
According to The New York Times, a U.S. government official confided that six B-2 bombers dropped a dozen bunker buster bombs on the Fordo nuclear complex, and that a B-2 also dropped two GBU-57 bombs on Natanz. In turn, submarines fired 30 cruise missiles at the Natanz and Isfahan sites.
Iran confirms attacks on its nuclear bases
The Iranian government confirmed that the three nuclear bases in Isfahan, Natanz, and Fordow were attacked. However, according to Iranian media, the facilities had been evacuated beforehand.
Prior to the attacks by the United States, Iran had promised to retaliate in case the North American country joined the attacks carried out by Israel.
