Jayson Tatum tears his Achilles tendon

The rest of the season will be lost.

Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum has suffered a complete rupture of his right Achilles tendon, an injury that occurred in the fourth game of the NBA Conference Semifinals series against the New York Knicks. He has undergone surgery and will miss the remainder of the season and most likely a significant portion of the next season.

“Jayson Tatum underwent a successful surgery today to repair a right Achilles tendon tear. There is no return date available, but he is expected to make a full recovery. Further updates will be provided as needed,” the franchise reported in a statement.

The American, a six-time All-Star, had to leave the court this Monday during the fourth game of the Celtics’ playoff series, the current NBA champions, against the New Yorkers, who lead the series 3-1.

Although the team did not provide an estimated time for his return, Tatum will miss the rest of the season and possibly most of the 2025-26 campaign, given the long recovery time for this type of injury post-surgery.
