The radars at Newark airport are failing again

This is about the most recent incident that experts warn threatens air safety.

Air traffic controllers tracking flights approaching and departing from Newark Liberty International Airport experienced another service interruption early Friday morning.

The blackout included the loss of radar for about 90 seconds at the Newark Terminal Radar Approach Control at 3:55 a.m. local time, according to a source familiar with the incident who informed CNN.

Another source adds that the facility also lost radio communications.

New incidents

Last week, air traffic controllers temporarily lost communication with the aircraft entering and leaving Newark, an incident that has continued to cause significant delays at the hub.

Last Monday, a ground stop was decreed at Newark airport due to a malfunction in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) equipment. The administration has not yet clarified the cause of the malfunction.

During the incident, air traffic controllers in Area C of the Philadelphia TRACON, a traffic control facility that guides flights entering and leaving Newark, lost communication with the aircraft entering and leaving the airport, which prevented them from seeing, hearing, or communicating with them, according to the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA). Air traffic controllers are responsible for separating and sequencing aircraft entering and leaving Newark Airport.
