The former Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, has accused the country’s president, Donald Trump, of “abandoning” the “American ideals” in what constitutes her first major speech since losing the November 2024 election to the New York magnate.
After the first 100 days of Trump’s second term, Harris has warned of what she considers an “attack on the Constitution” and has applauded those citizens who have been “raising their voices for 14 weeks and demonstrating their bravery”.
“This crisis will affect everyone. Because it will mean that the rules that protect fundamental rights and freedoms and that ensure that we all give our opinion on how the government works will no longer matter,” he said during an event in the city of San Francisco, as reported by CNN.
Thus, he has accused the Trump Administration of the “turbulent economic situation” due to the tariff policy imposed by the president against his “main trading partners” and has criticized the massive layoffs of officials, the treatment of migrants, and the situation faced by foreign students.
“This country is ours. It doesn’t belong to whoever is in the White House. It belongs to all of you. To us, the people,” he asserted, while also describing Trump’s decisions as “reckless.”
“Let’s not be deceived into thinking that everything is chaos. I know it may seem that way, but understand that what we are witnessing is an event that will have long-term repercussions, where a vehicle is being used for the rapid implementation of an agenda that has been brewing for decades,” stated the former vice president.
Harris had been away from the public eye since last November after an election in which Trump won the majority of the Electoral College votes despite a closer popular vote.
Now, some American media outlets suggest that the Democratic politician may be considering running for governor of California, her home state, in the 2026 elections.
