Conflicting groups in Syria have agreed on measures to end the military escalation

Israel bombed Damascus this Wednesday and after the intervention of the Trump administration, Syrian military forces began their withdrawal from Sweida.

The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, reported Wednesday evening that all parties involved in the clashes in Syria have agreed on “specific measures” to end a “worrying and frightening” escalation in the country.

The last chapter of this conflict included the bombing by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF for its acronym in English) of the Syrian Army headquarters and the presidential palace in Damascus in defense of the Druze.

How was the agreement between the conflicting parties in Syria achieved?

“We have been in contact with all parties involved in the confrontations in Syria. We have agreed on specific measures that will put an end to this worrying and terrifying situation tonight. This will require all parties to fulfill the commitments made, and that is what we fully expect from them,” said Rubio.

Shortly before, the Secretary of State had stated that Washington hoped for tensions to be reduced “in the next few hours” in southern Syria between Druze and Bedouins in the context of the clashes that have erupted in the city of Sweida.

“We have been in contact all morning and all night with both sides, and we believe we are on our way to a true de-escalation,” Rubio commented during a press conference with the U.S. President, Donald Trump.

The head of US diplomacy explained that despite the “long-standing historical rivalries” among the different groups in southern Syria, Washington hopes to see “real progress” in ending the escalation within a situation that he has described as “complicated.”

The United States also asked Israel to take the same containment measures, although it provided more details on diplomatic conversations regarding what Washington labeled as a “misunderstanding” following Israeli attacks on Syrian territory.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Wednesday that the situation in Sueida is “very serious” and assured that the Israeli Army is carrying out attacks in the country to “save” the Druze.
