China criticizes Donald Trump’s new threat of tariffs

Trump stated that he will send letters to 15 countries this Monday to warn them that if there are no new negotiations, he will reapply high tariffs.

This Monday, the Chinese government criticized the use of tariffs as a “tool of coercion and pressure” after US President Donald Trump warned that he could impose an additional 10% tariff on countries aligning with the BRICS.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, threatened with an additional 10% tariff on countries aligning with the BRICS, which he described as “anti-American.”

“The cooperation among the Brics countries is open and inclusive and is not directed against any country,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning at a press conference.

He also asserted that China “has always opposed tariff and trade wars” and that the “arbitrary” imposition of tariffs “benefits no country.”

Additional 10% tariff for countries aligning with the Brics

Trump stated that he will send letters to 15 countries this Monday to warn them that if there are no new negotiations, he will reapply the high tariffs he announced in April.

In a post on his Truth Social network this Monday, he also threatened an additional 10% tariff on countries aligning with the Brics, which he called “anti-American” for their criticisms of US trade policy, during a summit taking place in Rio de Janeiro.

The group, initially formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, recently expanded to 11 countries and represents almost half of the world’s population and around 40% of the GDP.
