The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported the discovery of the first fatality from the large-scale aerial attacks that the Russian forces carried out overnight on the capital, Kyiv, also leaving 26 injured.
“The rescuers pulled a body from under the rubble of a building destroyed as a result of a massive Russian attack,” authorities reported, as firefighting and debris removal efforts continue.
How were the new Russian attacks on Ukraine?
The bombings hit the districts of Solomianski, Sviatoshinski, and Shevchenkivski, causing significant damage to residential buildings. Up to 135 units of the State Emergency Service were deployed to the scene, and over 500 workers were mobilized to assist in the tasks.
Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russian troops launched 550 drones and missiles against Kyiv and other areas of the country, including “at least 330” Shahed kamikaze drones and ballistic missiles. “This has been one of the largest, deliberately massive, and cynical aerial attacks,” the president denounced on his X account.
In parallel, other attacks were recorded throughout this Friday in Krivoy Rog, in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The city where Zelensky is from was targeted by Su-34 fighter jets, leaving six injured in their wake.
In Kupiansk, Kharkiv region, one person has died and two others were injured after a projectile from Russian forces hit the city center.
Russia attacks after conversation between Putin and Trump
“The first anti-aircraft alerts in our cities and provinces began to sound yesterday almost simultaneously with press reports talking about a phone call between President Trump and Putin,” said Zelensky. “Once again, Russia demonstrates that it has no intention of ending the war or terrorism,” he emphasized.
The President of Ukraine commented that the air raid alerts ended around 9 am (local time) this Friday and stated that it was a “brutal night”.
“All of this clearly demonstrates that, without truly large-scale pressure, Russia will not change its foolish and destructive behavior,” said Zelensky, who also stated that such sanctions should come from the United States.
This Thursday, Donald Trump had a phone conversation with Vladimir Putin, in which the Russian president stated that he “will not abandon his goals” regarding Ukrainian territory, as reported by Russian presidential advisor Yuri Ushakov to state media.
According to the Kremlin’s version, Trump insisted on the urgency of ending the war “as soon as possible.”
“I made no progress with him at all,” said the President of the United States, who had promised to end the War in Ukraine as soon as he took office, a situation that occurred on January 20th.
