Sean “Diddy” Combs’ reaction upon being acquitted of the most serious charges: he knelt down in a prayerful attitude

According to various media outlets, the rapper was silently saying "thank you, thank you" to the jury, while his lawyers hugged each other.

This Tuesday, in an unexpected turn of events, one of the most high-profile trials of this century ended when rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, accused of leading a criminal organization that trafficked women for prostitution, was acquitted of the most serious charges that could have sent him to jail for life.

Combs was found guilty of the two charges of transporting for prostitution, but innocent of conspiracy to extort and trafficking for sexual exploitation by force, fraud, or coercion.

How was the ruling received inside the courtroom?

According to the account from NBC News, present in the federal court room in Manhattan, when it was announced that the jury had reached a verdict, Sean “Diddy” Combs was noticeably more restless than on previous days, remaining with his head down at the defense table. The silence was such that any small sound became deafening.

At the time of the verdict, it was read solemnly. The twelve jury members maintained their composure and avoided making eye contact with the accused, projecting an image of seriousness and distance.

Upon hearing the decision, the rapper’s legal team showed a clear reaction of relief. Teny Geragos, part of his defense, broke down in tears and Marc Agnifilo, lead attorney, even lifted her off the ground with his enthusiastic hug. In a more subdued gesture, Combs knelt next to his chair and bowed his head in a prayerful attitude. Various journalists also saw him silently thanking the jurors by saying “thank you, thank you”.

The scene intensified when the artist’s family members, including his mother Janice Combs, broke into screams and applause. They left the building without making any statements, ignoring the numerous journalists and onlookers waiting outside the federal court.

Federal Judge Arun Subramanian took the opportunity to thank the jury for their commitment to the process. “I want to sincerely thank all of you for your hard work and dedication,” he declared, emphasizing the “enormous sacrifice... with no greater reward than answering the call of public service.”

He avoid the worst criminal scenario

Sean Combs still faces a possible sentence of up to 20 years in prison. However, having been declared not guilty on three of the main charges brought by the United States government, he managed to avoid the harshest punishment possible: life imprisonment.

It is still pending to know the exact date when the sentence will be handed down for the remaining charges.
