The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced that his Administration will “speak” with Iran next week. He now does not rule out reaching some kind of agreement with that country, after ensuring that they have already destroyed a large part of their nuclear industrial capacity. However, he also stated that he does not even consider it “necessary” for Tehran to assume any commitment at this time.
“I’m not worried if there is an agreement or not. The only thing we ask for is the same as before: that they don’t have nuclear weapons,” emphasized Trump during a press conference at the end of the NATO leaders’ summit in The Hague. There, he once again defended the Intelligence reports that, according to him, demonstrate that the Iranian atomic program has regressed several decades due to the bombings in the Fordo, Isfahan, and Natanz plants."
According to the president, Iran no longer has nuclear capacity, a point he reiterated during his appearance before the media alongside the Secretaries of State and Defense, Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth. In addition to reviewing the meeting with allies, they addressed other international issues, such as the growing tension in the Middle East.
In that context, Trump insisted that the bombings achieved “a lot, a lot of success” and “paved the way for peace with a historic ceasefire agreement”, referring to the truce that Iran and Israel committed to respecting on Tuesday.
Trump assumed that this ceasefire will mark, at least for now, the end of the conflict, as both sides are “exhausted” after fighting “very hard”. In the case of Iran, he believes that the country will try to “rise again”, for which —he said— “they desperately need money”.
