Trump leaves the G7 early to focus on the military conflict between Israel and Iran

The president of the US assured the other leaders at the international summit that there is already a dialogue in place to achieve a ceasefire between Iran and Israel.

Donald Trump made the decision to leave the G7 summit taking place in Canada one day earlier than planned, to focus on the war conflict between Israel and Iran, which is already in its fifth day of bombings and missile launches.

“The president Trump had an excellent day at the G7, and even signed an important trade agreement with the United Kingdom and Prime Minister Keir Starmer. A lot was achieved, but due to the situation in the Middle East, President Trump will leave tonight after dining with the heads of state,” wrote White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, on her X social media account.

Why is Trump leaving a day before the G7?

According to the original plan, Trump was going to stay in Calgary until Tuesday night, but as indicated by CNN, by midday on Monday, he showed signs that his focus was on the Middle East crisis.

The Republican leader ordered his National Security staff to meet in the so-called “crisis room” at the White House from the G7 Summit in Calgary awaiting his arrival.

“I have to return as soon as possible,” said the leader to the reporters present at the summit.

The president of the United States urged his team to meet with Iranian officials as soon as possible, while assuring other leaders at the international summit that there is already a dialogue in place to achieve a ceasefire between Iran and Israel.

Previously, also this Monday, the Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, had emphasized that if the US president wanted, he could stop the war between Iran and Israel “with a single phone call”.

Trump also lamented that the Iranian government did not sign the “agreement” desired by the White House before the open war with Israel broke out. “Iran should have signed the agreement that I told them to sign. What a shame and what a waste of human lives,” he lamented in a post on Truth Social, where he also stated that “everyone should evacuate Tehran immediately” without elaborating further.

According to information from CNN, there was division in the G7, as Trump made it clear that he would not sign a joint statement to call for a de-escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran.

The G7 is an economic and political forum that brings together seven of the world’s major economies: Germany, Canada, United States, France, Italy, Japan, and United Kingdom. In addition, the European Union participates in the meetings as a permanent guest. This year’s Summit is taking place in Kananaskis, near Calgary, Canada.

Could the United States get involved in the war between Israel and Iran?

In the last few hours, according to The New York Times, Israel has increased pressure on the United States to get involved in the conflict against Iran in order to put an end to its nuclear capabilities.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) do not have the so-called 30,000 pounds “bunker-busting” bombs from the United States, which would be powerful enough to destroy Iran’s underground nuclear facilities, especially the one in Fordo, located in a mountain.

Additionally, the Massive Artillery Penetrator requires a US B-2 bomber for its launch. Israel also does not possess this strategic aircraft.

In any case, Sean Parnell, the Pentagon spokesperson, reiterated tonight that “US forces maintain their defensive posture and that has not changed. We will protect US troops and our interests.”
