Trump announces $175 billion program for the creation of the ‘Golden Dome’ missile defense shield

The tenant of the White House promises to be "fully operational" before the end of his term.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced on Tuesday at the White House a $175 billion program for the creation of a missile defense shield called ‘Golden Dome’, similar to the ‘Iron Dome’ that Israel has.

Trump has estimated that the project will cost around 175,000 million, although the initial budget is 25,000 million dollars. To do this, he has put General of the Space Force Michael Guetlein in charge of the program.

“During the campaign, I promised the American people to build a cutting-edge missile defense shield to protect our homeland from the threat of a foreign missile attack. And that is what we are doing. Today, I am pleased to announce that we have officially selected an architecture for this cutting-edge system that will deploy state-of-the-art technologies on land, sea, and space,” he said.

He argued that this system will be integrated with the defense capabilities that the United States currently has and has indicated that it “should be fully operational before” his term ends (2025-2029): “We will have it ready in about three years. Once built, it will be able to intercept missiles, even if they are launched from the other side of the world or from space. And we will have the best system ever built,” he asserted.

“As you know, we helped Israel with theirs, and it was a complete success. And now we have much more advanced technology. Including hypersonic, ballistic, and advanced cruise missiles, all of them will be shot down,” stated the US president, who celebrated that, in this way, they will be “completing the work” of former President Ronald Reagan, referring to the failed program dubbed ‘Star Wars’.
