India launches a military operation against Pakistan

The Ministry of Defense of India confirmed the attack.

India announced on Wednesday morning the launch of a military operationtargeting terrorist infrastructure in both Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, CNN reported.

The military action represents a significant escalation of tensions between both countries.

The Associated Press reported that India fired missiles across the border into territory controlled by Pakistan at at least three points early Wednesday morning, killing a child and injuring two other people, according to Pakistani security officials.

The attacks occurred amid growing tension between the neighbors, both of whom possess nuclear weapons, following last month’s militant attack on tourists in the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir. India has blamed Pakistan for backing the militant attack, which Islamabad has denied.

“These measures come after the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, in which 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali were killed,” the Indian Ministry of Defense said in a statement, referring to an attack last month on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir.

“Our actions have been deliberate, measured, and have not aimed to escalate tension. No Pakistani military installations have been attacked. India has shown considerable restraint in the selection of targets and the method of execution,” the statement cited by CNN added.
