Trump states he is not seeking a third term as President of the United States

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated in a television interview that he is not seriously considering running for a third term in the White House, something prohibited by the Constitution.

“This is not something I am looking to do,” he told Kristen Welker, the moderator of the Meet the Press program on NBC News, according to excerpts from the conversation released this Sunday.

“I am looking to have four great years and then hand over the position to someone, ideally to a great Republican, a great Republican who will continue forward,” he expressed.

The United States Constitution allows only two presidential terms.

Trump, who was already president between 2017 and 2021, has alluded several times to the hypothesis of a third term since he returned to the White House on January 20th.

Even Trump’s online store was offering caps with the inscription “Trump 2028,” the year of the next elections, and one of the president’s accounts on the social network X shared a photo at the end of April of one of his sons, Eric Trump, wearing one of them.

The United States Constitution was amended in 1947 to establish a limit of two presidential terms, shortly after Franklin Roosevelt died near the beginning of his fourth term.
