Trump withdraws federal funding from public radio and television networks NPR and PBS

Withdrawal of funds

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has signed an executive order to withdraw government funding from National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), the public television network, both accused of providing “biased” news coverage.

The White House has indicated in a statement that both NPR and PBS, which receive billions of dollars annually at the federal level --especially through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB)-- could also face the blocking of funds obtained indirectly from public coffers.

The order also instructs the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., to investigate these chains for possible “workplace discrimination”. The measure has been approved after Trump criticized these services, which could lead to the closure of some local stations.

According to the president, both NPR and PBS have been broadcasting “biased” information that shows a clear “bias” on the part of the US public broadcasting service. “They show leftist propaganda thanks to taxpayers’ money, which is inappropriate,” he asserted.

“The document states that President Trump is working to ensure that every taxpayer dollar is not wasted on progressive projects and is instead directed towards benefiting American workers.”
