Who was the footballer Diogo Jota?

Diogo began training as a footballer at the age of nine in the youth ranks of Gondomar S. C. He remained at the club’s institution until 2013, when he was transferred to Futebol Clube Paços de Ferreira. He was promoted to the first team in the 2014-2015 season. He made his debut on October 19, 2014, in the Portuguese Cup against Atlético S. C. in a match that ended with a 4-0 result.

His first appearance in the Primeira Liga occurred on February 20, 2015, after replacing Diogo Rosado in a match that ended in a 2-2 draw against Vitória de Guimarães. He scored his first goal in competition on May 17 of the same year against Académica de Coimbra, becoming the youngest player to score for the club in the top competition of the Portuguese league. On May 30, 2015, he signed a five-year contract with Paços de Ferreira, extending his stay at the club until 2020.

On July 6, 2016, his signing with Atlético de Madrid of the Spanish First Division was made official, where he signed a contract until 2021.

Later, Atlético decided to loan him to Porto, and for the 2017-18 season to the Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club in England.

On January 30, 2018, Wolverhampton Wanderers announced on their website that they would exercise the purchase option. The Wolves paid 14 million euros to Atlético to keep him and he left without ever making his official debut wearing the red and white jersey.

On September 19, 2020, he was transferred to Liverpool F. C., the team with which he signed a long-term contract. On September 29, he made his debut for the Reds against Arsenal, securing a 3-1 victory.
