Trump will decide “in the next two weeks” if the United States attacks Iran: he wants to allow room for negotiations

The president explained his decision: "There is a possibility that substantial negotiations with Iran may take place in the near future."

The White House confirmed on Thursday that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, will make the decision on whether to militarily intervene in Iran “in the next two weeks” to allow for possible negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program.

“Since there is a possibility of substantial negotiations with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision on whether to do so or not in the next two weeks,” Trump stated in a message read by White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt during a press conference.

The president was seeking to respond, as he said through the press secretary, to the “speculations” of the media, despite the fact that he himself has made a series of statements and comments on social media pointing to a potential attack.

What would be the potential implications of an agreement between the United States and Iran?

In this sense, he explained that he is interested in achieving “a diplomatic solution” to all “the problems and global conflicts in this world”. “He is the president of peace through strength. If an opportunity for diplomacy arises, he will always take advantage of it, but he also does not hesitate to use force,” Leavitt argued.

The White House spokesperson also stated that the agreement must include a commitment from Iran regarding uranium enrichment, as Tehran should not have nuclear weapons, as she has pointed out on other occasions.

“Iran has everything necessary to manufacture a nuclear weapon. That decision falls on the supreme leader, and it would only take a couple of weeks to complete the production of that weapon, which would represent an existential threat not only to Israel, but also to the United States and the entire world,” he asserted.

Trump stated yesterday that the United States “is the only” country capable of dismantling the uranium enrichment center of Fordo, located in the central-west of Iran, thanks to the “bunker buster” bomb and the B-2 bomber. “But that doesn’t mean it will do it,” he clarified in statements to the press.

The former Republican president stated on Tuesday that he knows the whereabouts of the Supreme Leader of the United States, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, although he emphasized that Washington has no intention of eliminating him “for now”. “He is an easy target,” he wrote in a message posted on Truth Social.

The Israeli bombings took place days before the new round of negotiations between Washington and Tehran on the Iranian nuclear program. The meeting was scheduled to take place last Sunday in Oman, but Iranian authorities announced its cancellation due to the Israeli attacks.

It remains to be seen what Israel’s attitude will be now that Trump has shown openness to negotiations with Iran and has postponed any decision on a potential attack against the Islamic Republic for two weeks.
