In the afternoon of June 14, 2025, Minnesota was shaken by a shooting that left two legislators attacked in their homes in Champlin and Brooklyn Park, north of Minneapolis.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), along with local agencies, is actively searching to capture Vance Boelter, the only suspect so far.
FBI offers reward
The FBI offered a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Vance Boelter, 57, suspected of shooting at two Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses.
According to the information provided by CCN, the suspect is described as a white man weighing 220 pounds, with brown hair and eyes, who worked as the patrol director at the security company Praetorian Guard Security, where he received military training and had access to police-like equipment.
The man pretended to be a police officer at Representative Melissa Hortman’s residence, where he opened fire on Brooklyn Park agents, managing to escape during the exchange.
What happened on June 14th?
In the attack, Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband died; Hortman was a lawyer and former president of the state House of Representatives. Senator John Hoffman and his wife were seriously injured and underwent surgery with a favorable prognosis.
The suspect, dressed in a police uniform, allegedly used this attire to enter the homes. Although the motive was not confirmed, initial investigations pointed to a political background. Governor Tim Walz described the incident as “political violence,” and President Donald Trump ordered the opening of federal investigations.
According to CNN, authorities found a list of about 70 potential victims in the suspect’s car, including abortion service providers, abortion rights advocates, and lawmakers from Minnesota and other states.
