Donald Trump, has once again lashed out this Friday against the mogul and former ally Elon Musk after the collapse of their relationship a few hours ago, stating that the entrepreneur, with whom he has no intention of reconciling at the moment, “has gone crazy.”
In statements to ABC, Trump has addressed reports of a possible reconciliation in a phone call that is going to take place in the next few hours. “Are you referring to the man who has gone crazy?” the president responded before indicating that he is not “particularly” interested in talking to the businessman.
Shortly after, the president expressed practically the same terms in comments to the CNN network, where he opined about Musk that “the poor guy has a problem” before stating that he is “not even” thinking about him. “I don’t think I’m going to talk to him for a while but I wish him well,” added Trump.
The conflict between Musk and Trump has been intensifying since the president expressed his “disappointment” with the entrepreneur for his criticisms of the budget project recently approved by the House of Representatives. Trump stated on Thursday that Musk had prior access to the budget draft and initially supported it, something Musk vehemently denied.
“Elon disappointed me. He saw the budget before anyone else and didn’t say anything. Now he goes out to criticize it in public,” said Trump at the White House on Thursday. Musk, for his part, stated in X: “I never saw that budget. What he is saying is false and he knows it.”
Trump escalated the situation by turning to his own social network, Truth Social, and threatening to use the US government to harm Musk’s profits with his internet company Starlink and rocket company SpaceX.
“The easiest way to save money in our budget, billions and billions of dollars, is to cancel Elon’s government subsidies and contracts,” Trump wrote on his social media. “I always found it surprising that Biden didn’t do it!”
“This keeps getting better and better,” Musk quickly replied in X. “Go ahead, brighten my day.”
The president also took the opportunity to publicly reject the idea that his victory in the 2024 elections was due to the support of the magnate. “I didn’t win thanks to Elon Musk. I won because the American people trusted me, not a billionaire who plays king on social media,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
