This Wednesday, a new phone conversation between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin took place regarding the conflict in Ukraine, which the President of the United States described as good, although he warned that “it will not lead to immediate peace”.
Furthermore, Trump revealed that during the one-hour and fifteen-minute call, Putin told him “firmly” that he “will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields”.
What were the attacks carried out by Ukraine against Russia?
On Sunday, Ukraine carried out a drone offensive against the “strategic aviation” that Russia uses for its long-distance attacks on Ukrainian territory, damaging or destroying 41 aircraft at airfields in five regions of the country.
The attack reached airfields as far away as one in the Russian region of Irkutsk, about 4,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border and located very close to Mongolia, and another at the Olenya base, near Murmansk, in the Arctic Circle.
Russian presidential advisor Yuri Ushakov reported that Putin informed the US president about the weekend attacks on Russian facilities: “Trump listened carefully to our assessments, and our president spoke in sufficient detail on this matter.” The advisor added that Trump confirmed in the call that the White House was not informed in advance about the Ukrainian attacks.
What did Trump say about his conversation with Putin?
“I just finished talking on the phone with Putin,” commented the President of the United States on the social network Truth Social. “We talked about the attack on Russian planes docked by Ukraine, as well as other attacks carried out by both sides. It was a positive conversation, but not one that leads to immediate peace,” said Trump.
Additionally, he added that “President Putin stated, very firmly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields.”
Other topics of conversation included contacts with Iranian authorities regarding their nuclear program, and Trump emphasized that “time is running out.”
“I told Putin that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon and, in this, I believe we agree. He has suggested that he will participate in discussions with Iran and that, perhaps, he could be helpful in achieving a swift conclusion,” recounted the President of the United States.
