At the end of last week, Donald Trump wanted to give a grand farewell to Elon Musk, after the South African entrepreneur announced the end of his work in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The president even said that Musk would continue to be a “friend and advisor” to the White House.
But all the words of admiration from the President of the United States towards Musk seem to have been in vain, as this Tuesday, the CEO of Tesla raised his tone against Trump and called the tax reform bill that seeks to cut taxes and increase military and border spending a “disgusting abomination.”
Trump, on the other hand, thinks the opposite and has referred to the project as “the big and beautiful bill”.
What did Musk say against Trump?
“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.” Musk wrote on his social network X.
This is not the first time the South African has publicly criticized the bill, suggesting that it increases the budget deficit instead of reducing it.
The project, which is Trump’s major proposal after imposing tariffs, will go through the Senate after receiving approval in the House of Representatives by just one vote last week, with some Republican votes against it.
Breakup between Trump and Musk?
Before announcing his departure, Musk gradually stepped back from the front line of politics and from his work leading the highly criticized DOGE, which in its first weeks of operation laid off thousands of workers and reduced, among other things, the foreign aid activities of the United States Government.
Musk became a very unpopular figure, even in the White House, and this came hand in hand with a sharp drop in Tesla’s earnings, among other things due to protests against the brand and its cars for its association with the South African entrepreneur.
