Netanyahu claims that Israel killed the military leader of Hamas in an attack in Gaza

Mohamed Sinwar was the younger brother of Yahya Sinwar, one of the leaders of the Hamas attack against Israel on October 7, 2023.

Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel killed Mohamed Sinwar, the military leader of Hamas, during a bombing carried out by the Israeli Army in the southern Gaza Strip two weeks ago.

Sinwar was the younger brother of Yahya Sinwar, one of the leaders of the Hamas attack against Israel on October 7, 2023, and who was killed by Israeli forces in October of last year.

Neither the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) nor Hamas confirmed the death of Sinwar in the attack on Jan Yunis.

What did Netanyahu say in the Israeli parliament?

Without giving away too many details, the Israeli Prime Minister said in a speech to the parliament that “we changed the face of the Middle East, expelled terrorists from our territories, entered the Gaza Strip by force, eliminated tens of thousands of terrorists, eliminated (Mohamad) Deif, (Ismail) Haniyeh, Yahya Sinwar, and Mohamed Sinwar.”

According to Israeli media, the younger Sinwar was the target of an attack carried out on May 13 against an alleged command center located under the European Hospital in Jan Yunis.

Netanyahu’s statements come amid strong protests in Israel for the government to reach an agreement with Hamas that could grant freedom to the dozens of people who are still being held captive.

The Prime Minister of Israel, on the other hand, speaks of achieving “a complete victory.” Before the Knesset, Netanyahu said, “we will defeat Hamas, dismantle its leadership, and demilitarize Gaza.”
