Several dead after a small plane crashes into a residential area in San Diego

Local authorities currently do not know how many people were on board the crashed plane.

Several people have died this Thursday after a small private plane crashed in the Tierrasanta neighborhood in the Californian city of San Diego, an air accident that has forced the evacuation of several homes due to fuel spillage.

“We believe we have several fatalities, but we will need to carefully analyze the situation and make sure,” explained Dan Eddy, Deputy Chief of the San Diego Fire and Rescue Department, at a press conference. He added that the aircraft crashed into around 15 houses, which were damaged by the impact.

The Cessna 550 airplane departed from Teterboro Airport, on the outskirts of New York City, on Wednesday night. After a stop in Wichita, a town located in Kansas, it flew to San Diego. According to records, the aircraft is owned by a company from Alaska and was built in 1985, as reported by CNN.

Local authorities currently do not know how many people were on board the crashed plane, although Eddy has confirmed that there are no fatalities in the damaged houses from the impact, which occurred around 3:45 am (local time).

On the other hand, the San Diego Police Department has asked the population to avoid the area. According to preliminary information, no distress call was issued before the accident, which also left several cars burned.
