The winner of the Miss Grand International 2021 pageant was reportedly arrested this Monday, May 19, 2025, by Vietnamese authorities allegedly for “deception and fraud.”
Nguyễn Thúc Thùy Tiên, who won the first golden crown of MGI for her country in December 2021, in Thailand, allegedly sold weight loss products that turned out to be fraudulent.
Why was Miss Grand International 2021 arrested?
The product in question is Kera Supergreens Gummies, a fiber supplement promoted by the 26-year-old former beauty queen.
According to VnExpress International, Vietnamese authorities noted that the woman held a 30 percent share of the business’s profits and was a co-owner along with other investors.
“In December 2024, Tien publicly promoted the product alongside influencers Pham Quang Linh and Nguyen Thi Thai Hang. On Facebook, she marketed the gummies as a healthy snack that contained ‘the equivalent of a plate of vegetables per gummy,’ suitable for all ages. The controversy arose when a customer submitted the product for independent testing at the Center for Quality Control and Testing 2. The results showed that each box of 30 gummies contained only 0.51 grams of fiber—far less than claimed. Following the backlash, Tien deleted all promotional posts from her social media accounts.
At the request of the Food Safety Department of the Ministry of Health, the Food Safety Management Authority of Ho Chi Minh City conducted an official test. While the product’s levels of sugar, protein, fat, and energy matched its registered label, authorities noted that the packaging did not mention its fiber content, despite being advertised as a fiber supplement. The product was subsequently declared ‘counterfeit.’”
The gummies were heavily promoted on social media “with misleading claims such as ‘one gummy equals a plate of vegetables.’ Authorities confirmed that more than 135,000 units were sold to over 30,000 customers, generating over 17 billion VND (USD 655,093) in revenue.”
