“Now it’s time to enjoy the victory with family, friends, and team. I will take a few days off to process what I have done and, from there, I will focus on Roland Garros,” added the current champion of the Musketeers’ Cup, who plans to travel to the French capital on Wednesday.
The player from Murcia confessed his joy at triumphing for the first time in Rome, after defeating the local idol and world number one, Italian Jannik Sinner, in the final. “It’s wonderful to win here in Rome, something incredible. It has been difficult with the injury issue. This tournament has been very special because we have been very united all week with my team and family,” he continued.
“We have done a great job to recover from the injury. Coming to Rome and winning it the way I did makes me very happy and gives me a lot of confidence heading into Paris. I am proud of myself. I am proud of how I faced the match both in terms of tennis and mentally. It wasn’t a rollercoaster and I maintained the level all the time,” he added in statements collected by the ATP.
Alcaraz signed his fourth consecutive victory against a Sinner who, back after three months of inactivity due to his doping suspension, showed that he remains a dangerous opponent. “I always say that finals are meant to be won and that’s what we did. Today we showed a great level from both sides, especially in the first set,” he said.
“From the beginning, I knew that all matches with Jannik are very tactical. Probably, it has been one of the best matches I have played so far in terms of tactical level. I know how I have to play against him. I must think clearly every time I play a point. The level he has played at in this tournament has been insane. I am sure he will improve even more and feel better if he keeps winning at Roland Garros. He will be a very dangerous opponent in Paris,” he concluded.
