Lin-Manuel Miranda is working on a movie about Yadier Molina and his brothers

Movie about the Molina brothers

Lin-Manuel Miranda recently revealed that he is working on a film project about the story of Yadier Molina and his brothers Bengie and José.

Miranda said over the weekend that she is planning to make a movie about the Molina family, who grew up in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, the hometown of Miranda’s father.

“I’ll tell you about something I’m working on: the Molina brothers, who are from Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, the hometown of my dad. Vega Alta is home to an impressive number of Major League Baseball players... It’s truly amazing. So being able to honor that in a film is something we are trying to do with great dedication,” said the actor, composer, playwright, and producer of Puerto Rican descent in an interview with Jennifer Mercedes from Chica Deportes.

Former Yankees star Bernie Williams also grew up in Vega Alta, and Miranda said that honoring that town through a movie about the Molina family “is something we are actively trying to do.”

Miranda, best known for being the creator of the successful Broadway musical “Hamilton” in 2015, has a direct connection to baseball as he is the cousin of Twins infielder José Miranda.

In 1998, Bengie became the first Molina brother to debut in the Major Leagues. José followed in 1999, and Yadier arrived in 2004. The three were active players from 2004 to 2010.

Each played at least 13 years in the Major Leagues and combined for 4,077 hits. Bengie and José were on the Angels team in the 2002 World Series. José won another ring with the Yankees in 2009, while Bengie won his second as a member of the Giants in 2010.

Yadier was the most successful Molina, winning nine Gold Gloves, four Platinum Gloves, a Silver Slugger, and two World Series titles during a 19-year career with the Cardinals.
