Her struggle and positivity always kept her by the hand of faith, but Shannen Doherty’s cancer won out and she died on Saturday. The actress was most acclaimed in 1990 on Beverly Hills, 90210.
Shannen Doherty died at the age of 53
"I confirm with great sadness the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost the battle against cancer after many years of fighting the disease," said Leslie Sloane, the actress's publicist.
In 2015, Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer, but two years later she went into remission. Unfortunately, in 2020, it was revealed through court documents from a lawsuit that Doherty filed against her insurance company that she was "dying" from stage 4 breast cancer which had metastasized, becoming incurable.
Doherty: "None of us deserve it"
"It's a bitter pill to swallow in many ways," Doherty told Good Morning America. "There are definitely days when I say, 'Why me?' And then I say, 'Well, why not me? Who else besides me deserves this?' None of us deserve it."
By 2023, his cancer had spread to the brain.
"On January 5th, my scan showed Mets in my brain," wrote Doherty in an Instagram post. "My fear is obvious. I am extremely claustrophobic and a lot was happening in my life. But that fear... the confusion... the moment it all happened... That's how cancer can manifest."
He never gave up
Despite all the odds against her, the actress revealed that she was undergoing a new treatment.
"I am receiving a new cancer infusion and, after four treatments, we really didn't see a difference, and everyone wanted me to switch, but I thought let's continue with this and see," said alongside her oncologist Amin Mirhadi earlier this year.
"After the sixth or seventh treatment, we really saw how the blood-brain barrier was breaking down. Do I call it a miracle? For me, that's a miracle right now. It was like I rolled the dice and said, 'go ahead,'" Doherty said."
