What did Luis Suárez do?
In the midst of a post-match brawl, Luis Suárez approached a Seattle staff member, shouted at him, and then spat at him, according to images captured by the official broadcast.
The incident immediately spread worldwide. It was yet another flashpoint in the career of the fiery striker, who had already sparked controversy in Uruguay when Marcelo Bielsa left him out of the national team.
Suárez’s most infamous episode came at the 2014 World Cup, when he bit Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini during a group-stage match. FIFA handed him a nine-match international ban and a four-month suspension from all football-related activity. He had also previously bitten a PSV player while at Ajax, and Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanović during his Liverpool days.
To make matters worse, the Premier League banned him for eight matches for racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra.
Now, Suárez is expected to face fresh disciplinary action from MLS and its Disciplinary Committee.
Seattle Sounders claim first Leagues Cup
On the pitch, Seattle Sounders celebrated their first-ever Leagues Cup title over Inter Miami.
Despite several chances, Javier Mascherano’s side failed to score. Messi missed a golden opportunity with the score at 1-0 after a slick combination with Suárez.
The match ended in chaos, with players exchanging blows and shoves. Inter’s Uruguayan defender Maximiliano Falcón grabbed Cody Baker by the neck, while Seattle’s Jackson Ragen clashed with multiple opponents. The melee was sparked by Suárez, and veteran Spaniard Sergio Busquets was also seen striking a rival.
