Could be released soon

The judge, Enrique Hernández, set the new date for next Saturday, August 23, at 5:00 p.m. local time, so he will remain in the maximum-security prison in the capital of Sonora.

This means that the boxer from Culiacán, Sinaloa, could be released in the next few days if he is not charged.

For this to happen, the judge would have to rule that there is not enough evidence to continue with the investigation. If this does not happen, the criminal process will continue and the son of the legend will have to remain behind bars.

What is he accused of?

Chávez Jr. was detained on July 2nd by ICE agents in Los Angeles, California, for not having his documentation in order and, after several weeks, on August 19th around 11:53 a.m., he was handed over to Mexican authorities, according to the National Detention Registry.

The son of Mexico’s greatest boxing legend is facing an arrest warrant from the Attorney General’s Office for ties to organized crime, specifically related to arms trafficking.

The 39-year-old boxer is linked to the Sinaloa Cartel, specifically with the faction of Los Chapitos. His case has generated international attention due to being a prominent figure in the sports world.
