There were 3 seconds left and the USA was winning the game by one point, but the ball was in Mexico’s hands for the last play, which was a display of concentration, precision, and quality.
Diana Flores found Victoria Chávez, who quickly ran to the scoring zone to outsmart the team of the stars and stripes and achieve a masterful reception to give Mexico the victory.
Right at that moment, the stopwatch hit zero and the game was declared over, so the Aztec celebration was not far behind. The players hugged each other, smiled, and some even cried when they realized the achievement they had accomplished.
Mexico firmly on the path to Olympic gold
With this victory, Mexico became the women’s world champion for the second time and gives a glimpse of hope towards Los Angeles 2028, as it is worth mentioning that this discipline will be part of the Olympic program in the next sports event.
This means that the tricolor team is emerging as the top candidate to win the gold in the upcoming Olympic Games, as they have demonstrated convincingly that they are the world’s top power in flag football.
“I am very happy, I feel blessed for this opportunity, for my team, for my coaches. Very grateful and proud of my team, today we had an amazing game, a true team effort, the defense did an amazing job. Ely motivated us every second to give our best in every play. Our family, the staff, did an amazing job. Blessed and grateful,” said Diana Flores, tears in her eyes.
