After the Summit, even though the President of the United States had said that was his main goal, a ceasefire was not achieved and Russia can continue with its invasion of Ukraine.

How was the new attack by Russia on Ukraine?

The Ukrainian Air Force, according to a statement published on the social network Telegram, managed to shoot down 61 of those drones, among which there were “Shahed” drones (of Iranian design, although mostly manufactured in Russian territory) and decoy devices, whose aim is to saturate Ukrainian air defenses. The fate of the ballistic missile was not reported.

The affected regions were Sumi (northeast), Donetsk (east), Chernihiv (north), and Dnipropetrovsk (east-central), as indicated by the same source. Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported in its traditional morning briefing on the state of the fronts that there were 139 clashes at various points of contact during Friday’s day.

These attacks took place while the much-anticipated meeting between Putin and Trump was taking place in Alaska on Friday evening in an attempt to end the war, but so far it has not resulted in any ceasefire.

Russia, meanwhile, claimed to have intercepted and destroyed 29 Ukrainian drones in various regions of the country, including ten devices flying over the Rostov region.

The war triggered by the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 is the bloodiest conflict in Europe since World War II, and has caused tens of thousands of deaths.
