What did Trump say about the meeting with Putin?
In the interview conducted at the military base in Anchorage, Alaska, the president provided few details about the three-hour meeting and mostly focused on highlighting his good relationship with Putin.
“I think we have agreed on many things. And I can assure you that the meeting was very cordial,” said Trump.
Of the little he spoke about the war and the Summit, the President of the United States returned to the Ukrainian president. When asked about a ceasefire, Donald Trump said that “it really now depends on President Zelensky to achieve it and I would also say that European nations should get involved a little.”
Trump chose not to make his disagreements with Putin public during the meeting, although he stated that there are “one or two significant issues” and that he believes they can be resolved.
In addition, the President of the United States admitted that he had paused potential sanctions against Russia. “Because of what happened today, I don’t think I have to think about that right now,” said Trump.
Possible summit between Putin and Zelensky?
Regarding a future trilateral summit between the United States, Russia, and Ukraine with the presence of their leaders, Trump stated that Putin and Zelensky want him to be there: “I don’t think I was even asked, it’s not that I want to be there, but I want to make sure it happens.”
In the end, at the press conference at the military base in Anchorage, Alaska, Putin said in English that the next meeting could be in Moscow, to which Trump replied, “It would be interesting... I would be criticized but I think it could be achieved.”
