The Anaconda Police Department identified the fleeing suspect as Michael Paul Brown, whom they described as dangerous, and warned neighbors to stay alert.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) confirmed the shooting and said in a message on X that they are collaborating with the investigation.

The governor of Montana, Greg Gianforte, said on social media that he is closely monitoring the situation related to “an active shooter”.

The Sheriff’s Department of Granite County, neighbor to Deer Lodge, explained on social media that a police tactical team had searched a house in Anaconda, but had not found the shooter, and advised residents to avoid the area.
