Rivera indicated that when she presented her identification to buy wines, the staff at the establishment rejected it because it was a document issued in Puerto Rico.

“They asked me for a Real ID and are saying that, because it’s a document from Puerto Rico, it’s not made by the United States. Can you believe it? They didn’t accept the ID," Rivera began saying in a video posted on the TikTok platform.

And he added: "They ended up kicking me out of the store [...] The cashier told my brother that the ID was not valid because, according to Walmart’s policy, they do not accept IDs issued outside of the United States. I replied: ‘What do you mean, if Puerto Rico is part of the United States?’ and she said no."

The influencer also pointed out that the worker mocked them. Additionally, she mentioned that she contacted the store manager to file a formal complaint, but the manager did not offer any solution and supported the staff’s decision.

“She was laughing... very mockingly,” Rivera stated. “I called the manager because I will not allow us to be discriminated against, but she defended the employee,” he added.

Similarly, he detailed that the staff threatened to call the authorities on them.

“The employee, who was mocking and laughing, ended up crying and they said they were going to call the police. They didn’t do it because they knew they were wrong [...] The manager got so upset that everyone (who was with me) thought she was going to hit me," he explained.

Rivera accused Walmart of being “racist.”

“What that girl did to us was discrimination,” he emphasized.

According to the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTOP), the Real ID is an identification card that meets the federal requirements established by the Real ID Act of 2005.

It differs from the regular document because it has a gold star in the upper right corner, indicating that it is valid for federal purposes such as domestic travel and access to federal facilities.
