Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) won this Sunday the Tour de France for the fourth time in his career and starred in an unusual final stage, where he was in the final breakaway and fought until the last meters with winner Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike) on the last climb of the Côte de la Butte Montmartre.

At 26 years old, Pogacar completed the poker in the Tour de France (2020, 2021, 2024, and 2025) and lived up to his status as a favorite despite suffering more than expected. The Tour felt long to the Slovenian, as he himself admitted and as he experienced this past Sunday when Van Aert left him behind in Montmartre.

However, the Slovenian became the youngest rider to achieve four overall victories in the Tour de France and has many years ahead to match, and perhaps surpass, the record of five victories set by Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, and Miguel Indurain.
Pogacar wanted a historic victory in the last stage
Pogacar missed the chance to cross the finish line first on the Champs-Élysées in a different stage in Paris, where the spotlight wasn’t going to be on the sprint with three climbs to Montmartre, and to top it off, the rain appeared in the last 30 kilometers of the 132.3 kilometers between Mantes-la-Ville and the Champs-Élysées in the City of Light.
The last time the leader won the final stage of the Tour was Bernard Hinault, in 1982.
The cyclists rode through the outskirts of Paris, with the UAE Team Emirates toasting and the first attacks on the slopes of the Côte de Bazemont and the Côte du Pavé des Gardes until reaching the banks of the Seine River next to the Eiffel Tower. The overall times were already set at that point, but the famous winner in the French capital was still to be determined, a title that Pogacar wanted to claim, as insatiable as always until he faced reality.
The legs of the Pyrenees, where he delivered the final blow to Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) and the Tour, were not the same in the Alps, and even less so in the last eight kilometers of the “Grande Boucle.” The yellow jersey joined the six men who were going to fight for the stage: Matteo Jorgenson and Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike); Matej Mohoric (Bahrain Victorious); Matteo Trentin (Tudor), and Davide Ballerini (XDS-Astana).
The Slovenian, winner of the mountain competition as well, launched his attack on the third and final climb to Montmartre, but Van Aert’s response was reminiscent of the Belgian’s best times. The rider from Team Jumbo-Visma, who had not won a stage in the French tour for three years, rode solo with authority and arrived alone at the Champs-Élysées in the tenth stage of the Tour to add to his palmarès.
Final results of the Tour de France 2025
Of the four times Pogacar won the Tour, on three occasions (2025, 2024, and 2021), Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) finished second in the general classification. This time, the Danish champion of 2022 and 2023 arrived 4:24 behind, and third was the German Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) at 11:00.
The winner of the points and wearer of the green jersey was the Italian Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek), while the young rider champion was Lipowitz.
