The scandal that shook the tech company Astronomer after the viral infidelity of its former CEO Andy Byron continues to take unexpected turns. Now, in a move that many interpret as a lesson in karma, the company has hired Gwyneth Paltrow, ex-wife of Coldplay’s lead singer Chris Martin, as a temporary spokesperson.

“Thank you for your interest in Astronomer. Hello, I’m Gwyneth Paltrow. I have been temporarily hired to speak on behalf of the over 300 employees of Astronomer," begins the Oscar-winning actress.

In a relaxed tone, the businesswoman also explains that the company has received a wave of attention since the scandal involving Andy Byron and Kristin Cabot - both married - who were caught by the “kiss cam” at a Coldplay concert on July 16, in a moment of obvious closeness that was broadcasted to the entire stadium and went viral on social media.

Paltrow, without directly mentioning the scandal, subtly makes a reference to the media phenomenon:

“We are excited that so many people have discovered a new interest in automating data workflow.” And concludes with elegance: “Now we will return to what we do best: offering innovative results to our clients.”

The scandal that changed everything

The unexpected appearance of Gwyneth Paltrow occurs just days after Andy Byron resigned as CEO of Astronomer, followed by the departure of Kristin Cabot, the firm’s HR director.

All due to the images that showed them being affectionate during a Coldplay concert, while singer Chris Martin joked on stage: “Either they are having an affair... or they are very shy”.

Both executives were married to other people, which caused a wave of reactions, memes, and speculations. The story ended in their resignations, internal investigations, and a reputational shakeup for Astronomer... which is now trying to capitalize on the moment with humor and strategy.

Strategic coincidence or marketing move?

Astronomer has not issued any additional statements following the publication of the video by Gwyneth Paltrow, but their appearance has sparked a wave of comments on social media.

Meanwhile, Astronomer is keeping up with its corporate agenda, with its event Beyond Analytics confirmed for September, and Paltrow as an unexpected public figure amidst media attention.
