For two days, teams will have to work against the clock to develop projects that address challenges designed by experts from different divisions of NASA. The topics range from artificial intelligence and machine learning models, to environmental monitoring, space exploration, and sustainable technology design for Mars.

Among the winning projects from previous years, one that stands out is a platform developed by a Latin American team in 2021, which was adopted by the Ministry of Agriculture of Colombia to connect farmers with local buyers and monitor land use through satellite images.

One of its creators, Dr. Yoseline Ángel López, currently works as a research scientist at the Goddard Space Flight Center and will participate this year as a mentor.

The program is supported by 14 international space agencies, including the Bahrain Space Agency, Brazilian Space Agency, Canadian Space Agency, European Space Agency, Indian Space Research Organization, Italian Space Agency, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre of the United Arab Emirates.

Those who wish to participate can register and choose their location—virtual or in-person—through the official website: https://www.spaceappschallenge.org
