One of the most wanted individuals in Puerto Rico has been arrested in New York

Federal Marshals in New York arrested Bryan José Rivera Montañez on Wednesday, one of the ten most wanted fugitives in Puerto Rico, for a murder that occurred in March 2024 in the municipality of Santa Isabel.

“This arrest exemplifies our fight against violent crime and demonstrates our commitment to the safety of our communities,” stated Wilmer Ocasio Ibarra, chief of federal marshals in Puerto Rico, in written statements.

Rivera Montañez, 26 years old and resident of Guayama, was being sought by authorities under a state arrest warrant issued by the Ponce Court for first-degree murder and multiple violations of the Firearms Law. His bail had been set at 2.5 million dollars.

The arrest was made in an apartment in the Water Street area in Jamestown, New York, without any incidents reported. The operation was carried out by the New York and New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, after receiving a support request from the Violent Offenders Task Force of the U.S. Marshals Service in Puerto Rico.

Since its foundation in 2002, the regional unit in New York and New Jersey has captured over 100,000 fugitives and collaborates with over 90 federal, state, and local agencies. Police: Two women on the list of the most wanted people in the Bayamón area

Agents from the Arrests and Extraditions Division of the Puerto Rico Police Bureau updated on Wednesday the list of the most wanted in the Bayamón area, composed of individuals with arrest warrants for serious crimes.

Among the most wanted is Jonathan Prado Torres, with a warrant for murder and violations of the Arms Law. The imposed bail amounts to 1.5 million dollars.

Also on the list are Álvaro Nolasco Polanco, with charges of attempted murder and weapons law violations, with a bail of 400 thousand dollars, and John A. Pacheco Sánchez, accused of child abuse and violations of the weapons law, with a bail of 600 thousand dollars.

The list includes other fugitives for crimes such as gender violence, stolen vehicles, burglary, arson, and abuse of the elderly, with bails ranging from $40,000 to $100,000.
