Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz reached the final of the Wimbledon tournament on Friday after defeating American Taylor Fritz in four sets (6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6), where he will face Italian Jannik Sinner on Sunday, who did not give Serbian Novak Djokovic a chance (6-3, 6-3, 6-4).

Alcaraz will seek his third consecutive title at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club and become the Spanish tennis player with the most titles on the London grass, as well as being the first player since Björn Borg in 1980 to win two consecutive Roland Garros-Wimbledon doubles.

Sinner, meanwhile, will go for the fourth Grand Slam of his career, but the first at Wimbledon, where he had never reached the final match before.

Alcaraz’s great winning streak

Alcaraz’s stratospheric winning streak continues, now standing at 24 consecutive matches. In addition, this also marks his 18th consecutive victory on grass and his 20th at the Wimbledon tournament. Impressive numbers that add to his undefeated status this season on grass and a 92% career win rate on this surface.

All this after a semifinal in which Alcaraz showed pragmatism to overcome, until now, the best server of the tournament, Taylor Fritz. The Spanish player, as he did against Andrey Rublev and Cameron Norrie, relied on his serve to win the match. He hit 65% of his serves as first serves, winning 88% of those points. In addition, he achieved 13 aces with only three double faults.

Alcaraz also knew how to suffer to turn around complicated situations such as regaining the lead in the match after losing the second set and, in the tie break of the fourth set, saving two set points against him.

Sinner’s Monologue about Djokovic

After Alcaraz’s victory, the English center gave way to a clash of titans that Sinner turned into a monologue. The Italian, who had already eliminated the Serbian a month ago in the Roland Garros semifinals, once again showed himself to be superior to a Djokovic who couldn’t bring out his best version.

The Italian player made the difference from the start, not losing many points on his serve and comfortably flying around the court until breaking his opponent in the third game. “Nole” couldn’t find his rhythm and continued giving opportunities to Sinner, who didn’t waste a second break chance (6-3) and started serving in the second set.

The seven-time Wimbledon champion, aspiring to Roger Federer’s record and his 25th Grand Slam, failed again and the number one was quick to take advantage and secure another set with authority.

In the third set, with his back against the wall, Djokovic let loose, wanted to go down fighting, and gave it his all to at least make it 3-0. However, Sinner won five games in a row and came close to the sixth, although he easily sealed his victory shortly after.

The Italian, in his fourth consecutive final of a major tournament, will face the Spanish player again this Sunday, in a rivalry that will see the 13th match between them, with the last five favoring Alcaraz, who is undoubtedly the nemesis of Sinner, who has not found a rival in the past two years until he encounters the player from Murcia.
