“We have a buyer for TikTok,” Trump stated, without offering further details, other than describing the interested party as a group “of people with a lot of money.”

He also acknowledged that “we will probably need China’s approval, but I believe President Xi Jinping will give his permission.”

Bytedance, the parent company of TikTok, must divest its operations in North America in compliance with the law driven by the previous administration of Joe Biden.

This legislation prohibits the use of TikTok in US territory unless the app is sold to a company not linked to China before January 19th. The law was confirmed by the US Supreme Court.

That deadline was extended by Trump after his return to the White House, in an attempt to facilitate negotiations with Bytedance.

The first extension occurred on January 20, the same day of his inauguration; the second one on April 4, when an additional 75 days were granted to close the deal.

Trump rejects extending deadline for the implementation of global tariffs

Trump also dismissed today the need to extend the July 9 deadline to impose tariffs on countries without a new trade agreement with the United States.

The US president referred back to his words from Friday in a press conference and reiterated that he will send a letter directly to the countries to establish the tariffs they must pay to do business with the country he leads.

“I don’t think I will need to do it. I could, it’s not a big deal, but what I want to do and what I will do at some point before the 9th is send a letter to all those countries,” he stated.

Trump detailed that Washington will determine the tariffs and, in the event that countries do not accept them, he wishes them “good luck” because that will be the end of the trade agreement.
