Trump claims he gave Iran an “opportunity” and that the situation “will only get worse” if there is no agreement

The American president describes the Israeli attack as "excellent" and warns that the next ones "will be more brutal."

Donald Trump stated that he and his government gave Iran “one opportunity after another” to try to reach an agreement on its nuclear capabilities and reiterated the importance of signing an agreement, as otherwise the situation “will only get worse.”

The United States held several rounds of negotiations with Iran to limit its nuclear capabilities and the development of a nuclear bomb. The next round of talks was scheduled for this Sunday in Oman, and it is not clear if they will continue.

Due to these negotiations, Trump had warned Netanyahu on a couple of occasions not to attack Iran, which had caused a rift between the President of the United States and the Prime Minister of Israel.

Trump insists on negotiating with Iran

The President of the United States reacted this morning to Israel’s attack on Iran, both on his platform Truth Social and in statements to the American network ABC, where he described the wave of bombings as “excellent” and blamed Tehran for what happened. “We gave them a chance and they didn’t take it. They received a very hard blow. They received a blow almost as hard as any other. And there is still much more to come. Much more,” warned the president.

Trump elaborated on that idea during a series of messages posted on his platform. "I told them that everything would be much worse than anything they knew," explained Trump, who defended both the military capability of the United States, “the best and most lethal” in the world “by far,” and that of Israel, which “has a lot” already and will have “much more” in the future. “And they know how to use it,” he added.

In this sense, he pointed out that some Iranian “hardline” leaders spoke “courageously” and are now “all dead”. According to Trump, there was “a lot of death and destruction,” but he believes that escalation is not inevitable and “there is still time to end this massacre, as the next planned attacks would be even more brutal.”.

“Iran must reach an agreement before there is nothing left and save what was once known as the Iranian empire,” Trump added. “They must do it before it is too late.”

The leader also linked the Israeli attack to the ultimatum he gave to the Islamic Republic two months ago to accept his terms in the negotiations on the nuclear agreement. "I gave Iran a 60-day ultimatum to reach an agreement. They should have done it! Today is day 61. I told them what to do, but they just couldn’t. Now maybe they’ll have a second chance!", he said.

Trump also acknowledged in statements to Fox News that Israel informed him of the attacks before carrying them out and shares with his ally Benjamin Netanyahu the thesis that “Iran cannot have a nuclear bomb.”

On Thursday night, in a statement, the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, said that the United States did not participate in the military operation over Iran.

“Of receiving prior notice, nothing: we knew what was happening,” the president commented in another interview, this time with the Wall Street Journal, before stating that an Iran without nuclear weapons “will be extraordinary for the markets, the greatest thing that could happen.”
