The Colombian security forces arrested a 15-year-old minor, the main suspect of the attack, who was carrying a Glock pistol.

What is Miguel Uribe’s health status?

According to the latest medical report released this Monday by the Santa Fe Foundation Hospital in Bogotá with the consent of his family, Uribe “has had a poor response to the medical interventions and treatments performed.”

The medical team has indicated that they remain “committed” to any effort that leads to their improvement. “Their condition is extremely serious. Therefore, the prognosis remains reserved,” they said.

The weapon was acquired in Arizona

The director of the Police of Colombia, General Carlos Fernando Triana, stated in a press conference that the gun used by the minor, who is in stable condition after undergoing surgery following being injured by the police, was acquired in the state of Arizona, in the United States.

“We are in the process of determining if there is a connection, if you can call it that, with illegal actors. If there is a connection with other individuals who use a child to commit such an abhorrent act as the one that occurred over the weekend against the integrity of Senator Miguel Uribe,” he explained.

The Colombian Prosecutor’s Office previously stated that the minor will be charged with attempted murder and illegal possession of weapons. While trying to flee the scene, he was injured in the leg during the police operation.

The Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, ordered to increase security for all presidential candidates, opposition members, and government officials following a request from the Democratic Center, a party founded by former president Álvaro Uribe, which requested “immediate protection measures.”
