“Our agents and local law enforcement are already on site, and we will share updates as more information becomes available,” added.
Local media cited witnesses who described a man throwing what appeared to be a homemade Molotov cocktail at a demonstration in Boulder, a town of just over 100,000 inhabitants.
The local police in X reported that they were “responding to a report of an attack on 13th and Pearl streets” in the heart of the city, “with reports of several victims.”
“PLEASE AVOID THE AREA!” added.
Several injured and one suspect detained
The police added that a suspect was arrested after the attack that left several people injured.
While emphasizing that the information was “very preliminary,” Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn indicated that the man was arrested after receiving calls to the police station about an armed individual who was “setting fire to people.”
Redfearn stated that he was not yet able to identify the suspect, mentioning that he had been taken to the hospital. He indicated that the victims had multiple injuries, ranging from very serious to minor.
The Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish activist group, stated on the same platform that it was “aware of reports of an attack at today’s Run for Their Lives event in Boulder.”
It was a “weekly meeting of members of the Jewish community to run/walk in support of the hostages” who were captured during the attack by the Islamist movement Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023, which triggered the war in Gaza.
