The personal secretary of the mayor of Mexico City and her advisor were shot dead

The attack took place in the Benito Juárez neighborhood.

The mayor of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, reported on Tuesday that armed individuals traveling on a motorcycle have killed her personal secretary and an advisor in an attack that took place in the Benito Juárez neighborhood of the capital.

“The Government of Mexico City reports that unfortunately the private secretary of the Head of Government, Ximena Guzmán, and José Muñoz, advisor, lost their lives during a direct attack in the Moderna neighborhood of the Benito Juárez borough,” reads a statement.

The Brugada office has indicated that the staff of the Citizen Security office and the Attorney General’s Office of the capital are conducting the necessary investigations to determine the motive of the attack. They are also analyzing the surveillance cameras in the area to identify those responsible.

“There will be no impunity, those responsible will be arrested and will have to face justice,” he assured, before offering condolences to the loved ones of the deceased, to whom he will provide all necessary support."

THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT “DEEPLY REGRETS THE LOSS”

Mexico’s President, Claudia Sheinbaum, expressed her solidarity with Brugada and the relatives of the deceased during her daily press conference, stating that they had been part of her “movement for a long time” and that she “knew” them.

“The Government of Mexico sends condolences to the family, all the support that the head of Government requires, we will get to the bottom of this situation and ensure that there is justice (...) We will provide all the support required by the Government,” he said.

Later, the Minister of Security, Omar García Harfuch, deeply regretted the loss of Ximena and Pepe, colleagues of the mayor’s team. “We will not let this cowardly act go unpunished,” he promised.

He has also pointed out that he is in contact with the head of Citizen Security of Mexico City, Pablo Vázquez, and the prosecutor Bertha Alcalde. Finally, he has indicated that he has “immediately” made work teams available to Mexico City to collaborate in the investigations and apprehend those responsible.
