Everyone is a witness to the close relationship between Elon Musk and the President of the United States, Donald Trump. This connection caught the attention of a group of Democratic senators, who are demanding an investigation into the South African tycoon for alleged corruption in the commercial agreements of Starlink, a satellite company benefiting from SpaceX.

Both companies, which are executive-led by Elon Musk, could have received commercial benefits at the beginning of Donald Trump’s term in the United States.

A group of three Democratic senators sent a letter addressed to federal officials, including Attorney General Pam Bondi and the acting director of the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, Jamieson Greer.

The letter explains the need for an investigation into Elon Musk to verify if there was corruption in obtaining government benefits for his companies, following a report by American lawmakers.

“The reports indicate that Mr. Musk may be using his official position and his proximity to the president to obtain personal economic benefits, even at the expense of American consumers and the country’s foreign policy interests. These actions raise questions about whether Mr. Musk or other administration officials may be violating ethics or other laws,” reads the letter sent by the senators.

The origin of the investigation is based on recent statements made by Donald Trump in his capacity as President of the United States. The executive reportedly recommended countries like Lesotho and India (which have quite high tariffs) to approve the operational licenses for Starlink.

“The suggestion that a foreign government adopts Starlink in exchange for tariff relief seems to be a classic case of corruption,” said the Democratic senators.

The investigation is led by the following individuals: Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), ranking member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, Mark Warner (D-Va.), vice chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
