Lionel Messi, one of the top three footballers in history, will choose his favorite goal from his entire career to be turned into a work of art by the artist and figure of contemporary art Refik Anadol. This artwork will be signed jointly by both and auctioned at Christie’s, with the proceeds going to charitable initiatives.

What is the best goal in Messi’s career?
Now, for the first time, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner will choose his favorite goal on a personal level. And he will do it to carry out an artistic and solidarity project.
The chosen goal will be announced worldwide on the social media of the Inter Miami CF Foundation on May 22nd, and will be immortalized thanks to the Turkish artist Refik Anadol, a key figure in 21st-century art, whose data-sculpted creations have redefined the boundaries between art and technology.
The benefits of this historic initiative will be allocated to charitable projects. Among them is a collaboration between the Inter Miami CF Foundation (IMCFF) and Unicef that promotes access to quality educational programs for children in five countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The final work, which will be officially unveiled in New York on June 11 by the auction house Christie’s, will bear the signature of both artists and will consist of two interconnected elements: the purest visual representation of the goal chosen by Messi and Anadol’s artistic interpretation, generated from millions of data points linked to that moment.
The Argentine player confessed that choosing just one goal from among all is “very complicated” because each one has “something special” and there are some “very important”. “Picking one as a favorite for the first time so that this unique project can be possible, is worth it. There is a very strong purpose behind it, and I am very happy to be a part of it,” he added.
On his part, Refik Anadol commented that it is an “extraordinary honor” to join forces with Leo Messi on a project that “supports non-profit organizations” and that brings together “the emotional legacy of sports with the future of art”. “Using AI to visualize Messi’s favorite goal memory is both a creative and ethical endeavor: celebrating emotion, memory, and excellence”, concluded the artist.
