Specifically, the document signed between the parties will allow the creation of an independent Russian-Venezuelan financial infrastructure to facilitate joint investments in the oil, gas, or mining sectors, as reported by VTV channel.

What did Maduro say about the agreement with Russia?

The Venezuelan president, the first leader Putin has met with as part of the celebration of May 9 this week, stated during the meeting that the friendship between both nations has withstood “the test of time”. “We have managed to bring our relations to a high level,” he said.

On the other hand, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has described the conversations between both leaders as “very exhaustive” after Putin himself said he felt “satisfied” with the contacts, as reported by the TASS news agency.

This year Russia commemorates the eightieth anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany, a symbolic date that President Vladimir Putin wants to take advantage of to surround himself with some of his main allies, a total of 29, including Maduro.

In the rest of Europe, “Victory Day” is celebrated on May 8th because the agreement with the Nazi representatives set the cessation of hostilities at 11:01 pm, but due to the time difference, it was already the early morning of May 9th in the Soviet Union.
