The White House has described as a “hostile and political act” the possibility that Amazon might break down the impact of tariffs on the prices of products sold through its platform, as reported by US media on Tuesday. However, the multinational company founded by Jeff Bezos has denied having any intention of doing so.

“This is a hostile and political act by Amazon. Why didn’t they do it when the Biden Administration raised inflation to its highest level in 40 years?” stated White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt when asked about this possibility.

Likewise, the White House spokesperson added that it would not be a surprise either, as Amazon “has partnered with a Chinese propaganda arm,” which is another reason why the US government is seeking to relocate critical supply chains to the United States to strengthen its own supply chain and boost manufacturing in the country.
The website ‘Punchbowl News’, focused on information about the Capitol, had reported, citing an unidentified source familiar with the matter, Amazon’s intention to show the impact of tariffs on the prices of each product, detailing the percentage of the price that would correspond to the implemented tariffs alongside the total cost of the product.
However, Amazon has stepped in to ensure that it “never considered” this possibility for its main website, emphasizing that it was only an idea from the company’s ultra-low-cost store team, known as Amazon Haul.
“The team managing our ultra-low-cost store Amazon Haul considered the idea of displaying import charges on certain products,” the company stated in a communication reported by CNBC, where it points out that teams constantly discuss ideas, but emphasizes that “this was never considered for Amazon’s main website and has not been implemented in any of its properties.”
“This was never approved and it’s not going to happen,” added the company.
