After completing his first 100 days as president, Donald Trump faces a growing resistance to his political agenda, with a declining approval rating and a majority opposing his main measures, according to a joint survey by Washington Post, ABC News, and Ipsos.
Since his arrival at the White House, Trump has been the president who has most rapidly pushed for changes in various areas of the government and external institutions. His administration has reduced the scope of executive power, altered global economic dynamics, toughened immigration policy, and questioned the role of prestigious universities.

These actions have caused significant disruptions to individuals, institutions, and financial markets, as well as triggering a series of lawsuits that the president has tried to counteract. The survey reveals that none of the issues evaluated by public opinion has majority support.
What is Trump’s approval rating in his first 100 days?
Currently, 39% of adults in the United States approve of the way Trump is conducting his presidency, compared to 55% who disapprove, including 44% who strongly disapprove. In February, the numbers were slightly better: 45% approval versus 53% disapproval.
Among registered voters, the trend is also negative. In February, Trump had a 48% support among these voters and today the figure has dropped to 42%, while disapproval has risen from 51% to 55%, resulting in a net decrease of ten percentage points in his approval rating.
Compared to other presidents at the same point in their terms, Trump shows the lowest approval rating in 80 years, since this measurement system has existed. The current president of the United States’ numbers are only comparable to Trump’s first term, where he received a 42% approval rating in his first 100 days.
Joe Biden, for example, achieved a 52% approval rating in the same period. Traditionally, presidents enjoy an initial grace period, but Trump seems to have broken that norm.
In turn, a survey conducted by CNN confirmed this trend, showing that Trump’s approval rating stands at 41%, a decrease of four points compared to March and seven points compared to February, reaching the lowest level since the presidency of Dwight Eisenhower, according to data from the network.
In addition, the president has seen a decrease in support among key sectors of his electorate. Approval has dropped ten points among white voters without a college degree, thirteen points among adults under 30, and eleven points among those who did not participate in the November elections.
Why has Trump fallen in the polls?
The survey results indicate that the president may have misinterpreted the meaning of his electoral victory over Kamala Harris, as his decisions have led to widespread discontent. Most people believe he has exceeded the limits of his presidential authority, perceive a deterioration in the economic situation, and think that the international leadership of the United States has weakened.
Regarding specific issues, more than six out of ten citizens disapprove of Trump’s management in areas such as the economy, international relations, trade policy, and response to financial volatility. A majority also disapproves of his handling of the federal government and his defense of the interests of the average citizens. Even in immigration, his political flagship, 53% disapprove of his management.
Most of those surveyed believe that Trump has gone too far in his attempts to expand presidential powers, fire public employees, shut down federal agencies, and attack his opponents. Fifty-one percent believe he has exceeded his powers by trying to halt diversity efforts in government and the private sector, while 48% believe he has crossed the line in his deportation policy.
However, Democrats also do not receive good news from this poll. When asked who they trust more to address national issues, 37% of respondents choose Trump, compared to 30% who prefer the Democrats in Congress. Another 30% express distrust towards both.
