Following the announcement that Amazon MGM Studios took over the creative control of James Bond, Pierce Brosnan only asked not to give the role to an American actor.

This was stated in an interview with The Telegraph by the Irish actor who portrayed agent 007 in four films: “GoldenEye” (1995), “Tomorrow Never Dies” (1997), “The World Is Not Enough” (1999), and “Die Another Day” (2002).

Pierce Brosnan stated that “it was a fact” that the next James Bond would not be American, as the vast majority of actors who have portrayed the character have been British, with the exception of Brosnan himself and George Lazenby, an Australian actor who played the spy in only one film: “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” (1969).
Pierce Brosnan hopes that Amazon MGM Studios will treat James Bond with respect and dignity
Pierce Brosnan said that the deal Amazon MGM Studios reached with former James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli “comes with a certain regret,” however, he understands that it was the best decision for them, who have been behind the creative control of agent 007 for decades.
“It takes a lot of courage to let it go. They will continue to have a say in the matters. I hope that [Amazon] handles the work and the character with dignity, imagination, and respect,” the actor expressed.
Furthermore, Pierce Brosnan added that he will be eternally grateful for having been part of the legacy and history of James Bond, especially for having worked alongside Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.
“We managed to change the course, we brought it back to life. It had been inactive for six years and ‘GoldenEye’ was so successful that it continued and was smooth sailing... You know, everything changes, everything falls apart, and I wish them the best,” the actor stated.
