Marvel Studios has announced a new approach for the release of its upcoming series on Disney+, “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.” This series, featuring the famous superhero, will be the first to follow a strategy of releasing episodes in consecutive blocks, marking a significant change in how the franchise presents its content on the platform.

Unlike other MCU series that have released episodes on a weekly basis or in a format of releasing multiple episodes at the beginning and end, "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" will debut with a series of grouped episodes. The episodes will be distributed as follows:

PUBLICIDAD

  • Episodes 1-2: January 29th
  • Episodes 3-5: February 5th
  • Episodes 6-8: February 12th
  • Episodes 9-10: February 19th

This innovative release format departs from traditional methods and opens up new possibilities for the future of Disney+ MCU programs. Fan response to this approach will determine how Marvel Studios handles the releases of their upcoming series.

"Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" is not connected to the MCU

Despite Tom Holland's popularity as Peter Parker in the MCU, "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" will not be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Initially, the series was intended to be a prelude to the story of Peter Parker portrayed by Holland, but Marvel decided to separate it to offer greater creative freedom.

Brad Winderbaum, a Marvel executive, explained that tying the series to the MCU limited narrative options, especially when wanting to explore Spider-Man's origin and his gallery of villains. Thus, the series is set in an independent universe, allowing creators to offer new stories, such as the plot of Peter being mentored by Norman Osborn, a twist that does not align with the MCU continuity.

Although the series is not directly connected to the MCU, it will maintain the essence and tone of Holland's Spider-Man movies, as well as draw inspiration from Steve Ditko's early comics. Fans will get to see characters like Doctor Strange, Amadeus Cho, and Matt Murdock, who will be portrayed by Charlie Cox, his live-action counterpart.
